YPE Houston 7,500 Member Powerhouse

Once a 100-member get-together group in 2005, the Houston chapter of the Young Professionals in Energy has exploded into a 7,500-member powerhouse. (Makes it a lot harder to chew gum if you have to bring enough for everyone.)

Last night, we snapped Enervest Legal Analyst Niki Roberts, Morgan Keegan VP John O’Brien, Aon VP Matt Gelotti, Cadence Bank VP Ashley Sloan, and Aon Risk Consultant Andrew Glissonhaving a Houston chapter mini meeting before the YPE Leadership Reception at the Hilton Americas downtown. The attraction: YPE attracts energy professionals because the profession is transient,specialized, and there's a mature age gap. Another big bonus: There’s no charge for membership, and if you’re getting transferred to Dubai or Korea, don’t fret—there are 24 chapters worldwide totaling 20,000 members.

YPE Midland Makes Generous Contribution to Petroleum Museum

The Midland-Odessa Chapter of Young Professionals in Energy made a check presentation for a $3000 donation to the Petroleum Museum during their 3^rd Annual Mentor-Mentee Night at the Petroleum Museum. They had a formal check presentation to Kathy Shannon, the museum’s executive director. Also in attendance was the local Midland news. The $3000 donation is to the Museum’s capital campaign and was raised as a part of YPE’s 2^nd Annual Crude Run 5k held May 7 at Midland College. YPE’s Mentor-Mentee night is a great opportunity for YPE members, their mentors and interns to network with other young professionals. Last year nearly 200 members, mentors and interns attended this event.

The Midland-Odessa Chapter of the Young Professionals in Energy has over 850 members and consistent attendance of about 100 at its monthly events. The local board is led by Doug Schmidt (Concho Resources), director, board members Chris Gardiner (ConocoPhillips), Nick McClure (McClure Oil Co.), Clay Whitehead (Concho Resources), Austin Williams (Pioneer Natural Resources) and chapter advisor Leah Rudnicki (Trey Resources). YPE is unique in the area and the energy industry because its membership is comprised of young professionals in all disciplines that contribute to the industry, including but not limited to engineering, geology, land, accounting/finance and legal. Spring break has begun in Las Vegas, an annual rite of passage where young men and women converge on the resorts and nightclubs of the city to kick off the doldrums of winter. One group of revelers also combined a little business with their pleasure. A social-networking organization called Young Professionals in Energy held their first summit conference at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino April 8-10. YPE was founded by Stephen Cravens of Houston as a way to more actively engage a loose association of friends across different energy industries.
