YPE has partnered with the DC chapter of Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) to tour the NASA Goddard Center in Greenbelt, MD. Participants will have the unique opportunity to tour the facility and meet with three NASA scientists to discuss their various work around climate change, carbon emissions, weather patterns, etc. There is limited space available and conditional on volunteer drivers and space in vehicles. When you register for the trip please indicate if you can drive, how many people you can take on the trip, and what metro location you can meet people.

NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center is home to the nation's largest organization of combined scientists, engineers and technologists that build spacecraft, instruments and new technology to study the Earth, the sun, our solar system, and the universe.

DO NOT assume that because you register on the YPE Website you are going to attend the tour. You will receive an email with instructions in March if we are able to accommodate your request.

If you are confirmed a spot on the tour you will need to meet with your driver at a designated location and be prepared to leave D.C. at 11am. You should plan on being out of the office all afternoon for travel, presentations and the tour. You will also need to contribute $10 to the driver for gas. PERMIAN BASIN SECTION SEPM

YOUNG PROFESSIONAL AND INTERN FIELD TRIP

June 10-13, 2010

Team Lead: Dr. Emily Stoudt (geology) and Dr. Robert Trentham (geology)

Mentors: Robert Campbell (engineering) and Chris Fling (land)

This trip is a four day multi-disciplinary field trip to the Guadalupe Mountains for the young professional geologists, engineers and landmen. The Goal is to educate participants in combining outcrop data with industry exploration and production techniques in a multi-disciplined environment. Participants will have opportunity to observe world-class outcrops of shelf to basin deposits that are the surface expression of the producing fields in the Permian Basin. Lectures will cover Permian Basin carbonate geology, simple rules of thumb in engineering (production and log analysis), and land practices. Classroom exercises will involve general land practices, sequence stratigraphy, log correlation, seismic interpretation and production analysis.

• Cost will be $700 for double occupancy and $800 for single occupancy

• Cost covers round trip transportation from Midland, lodging, breakfast and lunches, refreshments in the field, guidebook and handouts

• Participants leave from Midland, Texas on Thursday, June 10, and return to Midland, Texas on Sunday June 13
