Chicago has a diverse history of involvement in the global energy industry. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) was founded in 1889 and has evolved to become the world's largest and most diverse financial exchange. Chicago is also the host to the Citadel Investment Group, the global asset manager with a major focus on commodities, as well as Invenergy, the leading clean energy company focused on wind power. Chicago has also been home to major Amoco operations which are now operated by BP plc. The Midwest United States is a major North American refinery hub. Local universities such as The University of Chicago and Northwestern University have become global centers of innovation and talent development. The Kellogg School of Management and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business have been top breeding grounds for global energy industry leaders.
