Rally for Jobs

 

Here in Houston, we know the importance of the oil and natural gas industry to our local economy and the state of Texas. In the wake of the Gulf oil spill, however, elected officials in Washington, DC are considering legislation that could cost American jobs, drive small- and mid-sized firms out of business, threaten our economic recovery and jeopardize our energy security. Now is not the time for unnecessary energy legislation that could hurt the American economy. Furthermore, the Administration’s moratorium on deepwater drilling coupled with the de facto moratorium in shallow waters in beginning to take its toll on those who produce domestic energy resources in the Gulf of Mexico.

 

The oil and natural gas industry supports more than 9 million American jobs and contributes 7.5% to the nation’s gross domestic product, playing a vital role in our nation’s energy and economic present and future. Our representatives in Washington need to hear from us.

 

On Wednesday, September 1^st at 11:00AM Houston will host a Rally for Jobs at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The event will be an opportunity for energy industry employees and Houstonians whose livelihoods depend on the oil and natural gas industry to express their concerns about Washington policies.
