PERMIAN BASIN SECTION SEPM
YOUNG PROFESSIONAL AND INTERN FIELD TRIP
June 10-13, 2010
Team Lead: Dr. Emily Stoudt (geology) and Dr. Robert Trentham (geology)
Mentors: Robert Campbell (engineering) and Chris Fling (land)
This trip is a four day multi-disciplinary field trip to the Guadalupe Mountains for the young professional geologists, engineers and landmen. The Goal is to educate participants in combining outcrop data with industry exploration and production techniques in a multi-disciplined environment. Participants will have opportunity to observe world-class outcrops of shelf to basin deposits that are the surface expression of the producing fields in the Permian Basin. Lectures will cover Permian Basin carbonate geology, simple rules of thumb in engineering (production and log analysis), and land practices. Classroom exercises will involve general land practices, sequence stratigraphy, log correlation, seismic interpretation and production analysis.
• Cost will be $700 for double occupancy and $800 for single occupancy
• Cost covers round trip transportation from Midland, lodging, breakfast and lunches, refreshments in the field, guidebook and handouts
• Participants leave from Midland, Texas on Thursday, June 10, and return to Midland, Texas on Sunday June 13
